Portland Strip Clubs: Arson suspected in fire at vacant Milwaukie-area restaurant building

Steve McAdoo, Clackamas Fire District 1 spokesman, said the fire, which broke out in the Vineyard Building, 16323 S.E. McLoughlin Blvd., around 2:15 p.m. likely was intentionally set. He said investigators have located several areas inside the building where fire appears to have started at nearly the same time.
However, the fire did little damage before the building’s sprinkler system put it out and no injuries were reported.
McAdoo said the Oregon State Police and Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office would be called in to work with the district’s fire investigators.
McAdoo said no suspects have been named, but that an experienced arsonist would have realized the building was outfitted with a sprinkler system .
The building, erected in 1975, for many years was home to the Black Angus Steak House, operated by Stuart Anderson’s Cattle Co. However, the company closed its Oregon locations several years ago.
Two years ago, the building housed the Cabaret III strip club for a few months, but has been vacant ever since.

The nudity might be the hook, and also, yay for hot people being naked, but it’s weird how quickly one becomes acclimated to it—thanks to Maltease’s smart, clear, and commanding reading of Pale Blue Dot, for example, I was both surprised and kind of proud of myself when I realized I was paying more attention to Sagan’s ideas than to Maltease’s body. Typing that out, I’m wondering if there’s something horribly wrong with me.

Former Portland Police Sergeant Doug Justus, a Portland police officer, claims that the City of Portland forced him to retire because he talked to Dan Rather and “America’s Most Wanted” about sex trafficking, child prostitution and the city’s inadequate resources to handle the problems.
According to the complaint, on or about April 2010, Dan Rather Reports interviewed Justus regarding matters of human and child trafficking. During the interview, management personnel such as captains and lieutenants were in the room observing what Justus said.
After the interview, Commander Mike Crebs yelled at Justus for using a swear word during the interview and said that it needs to be edited. Justus explained that he used words relevant to child prostitution cases.
Following the interview, Dan Rather asked Justus to take him and the film crew to see local strip clubs, and an assistant police chief, now retired, insisted that a lieutenant chaperone Justus, lest he “embarrass the city.”

Some of my most vivid neighborhood memories are of the embryonic years of Key West, Fla., Oakland, Calif., and even Wicker Park in Chicago. During the mid-1980s I lived in a graffiti-tagged, former heroin shooting gallery across the park from the Busy Bee, a superb Polish diner. I do not recognize Wicker Park anymore. It could be anywhere.
The City of Portland, Ore., also is regentrified but has been able to retain its funky spirit.
The tourism bureau tells writers (at least like me) about historic strip clubs such as Mary’s, “Portland’s First Topless,” which dates back to 1954. “Portlandia” is the most popular show on the Independent Film Channel (IFC) because stars Fred Armisen — a former Wicker Park resident, and Carrie Brownstein — a Portland resident — poke fun at the city’s urban pretense with TLC.
