A federal magistrate in Portland today ordered a Tacoma man accused of sex trafficking to remain in jail while awaiting trial.
Chris Cool Wilmer, 28, is charged with sex trafficking of a child, enticement of a minor for prostitution and other charges.
Government prosecutors described Wilmer as a career offender with a violent history.
His niece, 20-year-old Latanisha “Tay” Booker, is charged with transportation of a minor for prostitution, witness tampering, and retaliating against a witness. She is accused of retaliating against a victim in the case.

Portland Police are seeking the public’s help in a case involving a 50-year-old Portland man who has been charged with multiple sex crimes.
Brent Dickwin Armstrong of North Portland was arraigned last Friday on 10 counts of using a child in display of sexual explicit conduct, 10 counts of second-degree sex abuse, 10 counts of third-degree sodomy, and 10 counts of prostitution. Armstrong, who pleaded not guilty, was arrested on March 7.
Since his arrest, a man reported to the Gresham Police that Armstrong had approached him when he was 14 and had “attempted to engage in sexual conduct” with him, police said.
Armstrong lives in the 4800 block of North Houghton Street and has been employed as a truck driver on Swan Island for the past several years, police said.

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Portland police are looking for any additional sex abuse victims after arresting a Portland man.
Brent Armstrong, 50, is accused of befriending a boy in his north Portland neighborhood and paying him for sex acts.
Armstrong was indicted on March 15 on charges of sex abuse, prostitution and using a child in a sexually explicit display. Additional charges are pending, police say.
Officers say another man has now come forward and reported that Armstrong approached him when he was 14 years old and tried to engage in sexual conduct with him.
Armstrong lived in the 4800 block of North Hougton Street and has worked as a truck driver on Swan Island for several years.
Detectives believe there may be more victims out there.

Bob Caldwell, editor of The Oregonian’s editorial pages, was in the Tigard apartment of a 23-year-old woman when he went into cardiac arrest Saturday afternoon. The woman called 9-1-1 at 4:43 p.m. to report that Caldwell, 63, was coughing and then unresponsive after a sex act. Washington County sheriff’s officers and medical personnel responded and transported him to Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, where he later was pronounced dead. The woman told deputies she met Caldwell about a year ago at Portland Community College. Caldwell, she said, knew she didn’t have much money, so he provided her cash for books and other things for school in exchange for sex acts at her apartment. Caldwell had not given her money Saturday, she told deputies. They decided against pursuing prostitution charges. Deputies notified Caldwell’s family of his death Saturday evening.

She told investigators the two met last year at Portland Community College, claiming that he paid for school expenses in exchange for sex.  Since no money was exchanged this time, prostitution charges were not filed.  
Caldwell was 63-years-old and is survived by his wife and three daughters.  He joined the newspaper as a copy editor in 1983 before taking over the editorial board in November of 1995.  A memorial service is planned for this Saturday.
