The U.S. attorney’s office says the case against Jefferson Bryant Davis involved a 13-year-old girl who turned herself into authorities last year while working in Los Angeles as a prostitute. She said Davis forced her to work as a prostitute in Washington, Oregon, California and Nevada.

As he strolls through the terminals in a Hawaiian shirt, shorts and worn hiking boots, it’s clear he’s become a fixture. Employees wave or shout hello. One stops him at the bottom of the escalators by the domestic baggage carousels and asks why he didn’t show up for samosa snacks one day.

Airport spokeswoman Rebecca Catley says the goal of the project is to show people what happens behind the check-in counters and security screenings at a big airport.
“A lot of people don’t realize what goes on at an airport,” she says. “We get a lot of requests for behind-the-scenes tours. We can’t do that from a security perspective.”
That’s where Mah comes in. Armed with a digital video camera, he documents the airport’s stories and posts them online. “My process consists of Facebook, tweets and blogs,” he said. “You’re constantly engaging with your fans. You have to give them what they want to see. I’m pimping myself out big time.”

A federal judge sentenced a Portland pimp to 20 years in prison today for his role in pushing a 13-year-old Salem runaway into prostitution.
Jefferson B. Davis, 23, pleaded guilty in July to sex trafficking of a minor in part to avoid a life term in prison for his crimes.
Davis met his young victim, now 15, when she ran away from her Salem home in October 2009 and made her way to Portland with a friend.
There, Davis put the girls up in a motel and bought them clothes, condoms and high-heel shoes. He nicknamed his victim “Diamond” and advertised her as an escort in “Exotic” magazine, according to court records.
Davis pushed his victim into prostitution in Oregon, Washington, California and Nevada.
U.S. District Judge Ancer L. Haggerty set a date of Jan. 9 to hear arguments about how much of the girl’s mental health treatment and other needs Davis will be required to pay, according to federal prosecutor Kemp Strickland.
They included Bank of America branches at 15961 Tualatin-Sherwood Road in Sherwood, and at 19181 Willamette Drive in West Linn.
The Sherwood robbery occurred Dec. 2, 2009; the West Linn robbery on Dec. 10, 2009. Other robberies included banks in Salem, Grants Pass, Medford and Eugene.
While Brier would typically give bank tellers a note demanding money, in at least two robberies he displayed the butt of a pistol tucked into his waistband. The U.S. attorney’s office said Eugene police identified Brier as the robber of the Umpqua Bank in Eugene and arrested him at the home of an exotic dancer. Swift, of Liverpool Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield, had pleaded guilty to keeping or managing a brothel between January 2007 and May 2010.
At her sentencing hearing in July, prosecutor Graham Pickavance told how when police, posing as customers, visited the brothel they were told a half hour “body to body massage and full personal services” would cost £45, an hour would cost £90 and there was a choice of three girls.
Police later found that Swift earned £20 from each client, with the prostitutes working for her pocketing the rest.
On May 27, last year, officers raided Mrs Swift’s business and found three prostitutes entertaining clients, as well as raunchy costumes, underwear, condoms, sex toys, baby oil, pornographic films and cash.

PORTLAND — SOS Oregon, an activist group that pickets sex clubs once a month, staged a protest Friday evening that drew about 20 people outside the Acropolis, a strip club on McLoughlin Boulevard in Southeast Portland just outside Milwaukie city limits. The Ardenwald-Johnson Creek neighborhood association in Milwaukie sent out a letter of support for the protest earlier in the week. I’m not going to spend time pointing out that condemnation of queer and nonmonogamous sex is only one take on Christianity, because Reverend Chuck Currie eloquently spelled that out yesterday and there’s great pro-gay religious groups all over the country.
In describing Portland as an “oversexed city,” Mars Hill links to this OK Cupid number crunching that lists Portland as the city with the most people per capita who say they’re looking for casual sex in their online dating profile.
We can assume that someone who creates an online dating profile looking for, among other things, casual sex is someone who, yes, actually wants casual sex. Having consensual sex with various people throughout your lifetime does not make you a human trafficking or sex abuse victim. Putting OK Cupid users on the same level as people who troll the streets looking for prostitutes diminishes the actual trauma and real, terrible issues of people who suffer from trafficking and abuse.
The disparity between official tallies and neighborhood narratives of the impact wrought by strip clubs on Portland residential zones is a common divide. Friday’s protest will amplify a local version of a citywide reality: official records and block perspectives tell different stories about adult businesses in the McLoughlin area and neighborhoods across Portland.
“I want to be able to walk on the street,” says Lisa Leithauser, a 46-year-old mother who helped form SOS Oregon five years ago in response to a growing number of strip clubs in the Southwest Canyon Road area.
“My first position was, ‘I’m a nice person. I can negotiate. I can get these guys to work nicely in the neighborhood,’ ” says Leithauser. “I found out quickly that’s not going to happen.”
The protests are “calm,” according to Leithauser. SOS members hold signs that say “Portland #2 in sex trafficking” and, borrowing Ashton Kutcher’s anti-prostitution campaign slogan: “Real Men Don’t Buy Girls.”
