KATU News recently confronted Cunningham outside one of his shops in Northeast Portland where Cunningham again denied the allegations.
“Are you out of your mind?” Cunningham said as he pushed his way into his car. He drove off without answering any more questions.
There are dozens of these lingerie or private room shops, in Portland alone.
They are on the radar of a grassroots group called SOS Oregon. Founder Lisa Litehauser says the businesses need regulations.
“They do as little as possible to bring in as many dollars as they can,” Litehauser said.
SOS Oregon has organized demonstrations against other adult businesses but Litehauser says the private room shops go unchecked more than any other segment of the adult industry.
Strip clubs normally have alcohol, food and gaming. They have to abide by regulations set by the health department, the Oregon Liquor Control Commission and the Oregon Lottery.

This is not the first time KATU has encountered Pussycats owner Ben Cunningham. In November 2009, business owners along Southeast Division near 122nd Avenue complained to KATU that Cunningham was parading nearly naked women around in front of their stores and passed their customers and children.
Cunningham has not answered numerous emails from KATU before or since that story ran, but in a recent phone interview he said he never knowingly hired anyone who was not an adult.
He denied knowing Jenny, aka “Asian Peach,” and said he believed LaLa was 18 when she went to work for him.
He also said he never encouraged anyone to prostitute themselves to customers. In fact, he said he tells every new employee that they will get fired if they agree to sell sex at his shops.

The prosecutor also called on the taxi driver, Cedric Armstrong, 32, who drove Rouse and the girl to customers’ homes. Although Armstrong denied knowing the girl was a prostitute, he told police that when he saw all the money Rouse was taking in, he thought about posting a prostitution ad for his girlfriend so they could make big money, too.

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
On June 10, 2003, around 4 a.m., a security guard made a gruesome discovery — a woman’s body slumped in a doorway of a downtown Portland building.
A friend of the victim recalled that Christine Lawson had prophetically talked of her own death just days before.
“She told me she didn’t think she was going to live anymore. She didn’t think she was going to make it ’til the next day,” the unnamed friend told FOX 12 in 2003. “I said, ‘Why are you talking like that?’ She said, ‘I don’t think I’m going to make it.’”
Lawson had lived a solitary life; drugs had taken hold of the 43-year-old woman. So much so, Cold Case detectives said, she turned to prostitution to pay for crack cocaine.

Juveniles cited for prostitution would get record expunged ASAP: 2012 Oregon Legislature

Juveniles cited for prostitution would get that part of their criminal record expunged without delay under legislation approved by the Oregon Senate Thursday.
House Bill 4146 now heads to Gov. John Kitzhaber. Both chambers approved the bill unanimously. Current law allows expunction only after a five-year wait.

The proposal would apply retroactively and is limited to people who were under 18 at the time of the charge or allegation, and only for the offense of prostitution.

Neighborhood leaders have lauded PCC’s plans for Southeast. But concerns have arisen about the impact of the expansion on nearby homeowners.
Bill Mehling owns the home he grew up in across the street from the campus’ west side. He’s 63 and said the campus was a driving range when he was a kid.
He doesn’t mind the expansion, he said, but he doesn’t want it to fundamentally change his childhood stomping grounds.
“It’s a neighborhood setting, and even with the school there it’s still a small neighborhood,” Mehling said. “I don’t want to lose that neighborhood feeling.”
Others are worried about students parking in the area and that traffic and prostitution could become a problem if the college paves and adds sidewalks and lighting to an unimproved stretch of Southeast 80th Avenue.

Portland man pleads guilty in Hillsboro residential robbery that ended in gunshot wound

A 22-year-old Portland man admitted Wednesday to breaking into a Hillsboro home last year, waking up the resident and demanding his wallet at gunpoint.
Jonathan Conrad Cordeta was sentenced to 6 years and 8 months in prison after his guilty plea in Washington County Circuit Court.
Cordeta and his co-defendant, 21-year-old Jasilynn Rogers, went to trial in the case in December, but the judge declared a mistrial because of an ill juror. Cordeta agreed to plead guilty last week, said Deputy District Attorney Brackey McKey.
The victim, 57-year-old John Alve, befriended Rogers after he met her at a strip club, McKey said.

The so-called “john school” is part of a year-old Multnomah County diversion program. It’s modeled after a San Francisco project that started in 1995 and has proven successful in keeping men from re-offending. Seattle runs a similar class.
Former prostitute Crystal Cooper, who started offering sex for money in Portland at 18, is one of the speakers. “We’re dying inside and we’re hopeless and lost, and that’s truly what you guys are contributing to,” Cooper, now 33, tells the men.
She says being on the street robbed her of her young adulthood and has impaired her relationships to this day.
Other speakers describe the fallout of the sex trade: A Southeast Portland resident talks of the used condoms that litter her neighborhood. Portland Police Officer Mike Gallagher describes the abusive pimps. Prosecutor J.R. Ujifusa  details the penalties the men could face if they’re arrested again.

Drug use, violence, crime and prostitution are not nearly as prevalent as they were just a few years ago, she said. But Gastélum, 46, who lives with two young sons, and other families in the largely Latino neighborhood are still concerned about the safety of their children. The lack of outdoor play areas nearby, where approximately 400 children live, creates a different sort of danger.

Portland is known for many things, but now it seems the Rose City may have a new title.
Dating website OKCupid.com says Portland is among America’s most sinful cities.
The website ranked cities that best matched the seven deadly sins and says Portland is the most lustful.
OKCupid.com says Portlanders seem to prefer more casual relationships. The website also noted that the city has more strip clubs per capita, even beating Las Vegas.
Other cities that are also considered sinful, according to OKCupid.com, are Philadelphia for envy, Chicago for gluttony and Las Vegas for greed.
