Police: Gun Used To Steal Car Outside Strip Club

PORTLAND, Ore. — A car was stolen at gunpoint at a northeast Portland strip club, police said.
Officers said the incident happened Friday afternoon at Exotica on Northeast Columbia Boulevard.
The victim knows the thieves, police said, and officers don’t believe this was a random crime.
Police described the stolen car as a black 1990 Lexus ES 250 with Oregon plates SWV224.

The last two nights ABC News’ feature story was titled “Pornland, USA.” The segment was a disturbing and alarming story of Portland’s “dark secret… as a national hub for child sex trafficking.” According to the report, Portland is the home to >100 strip clubs and massage parlors, making it the largest legal commercial sex industry per capita in the nation. Unfortunately, the sex industry is built on exploitation of innocent people. On the show, Nightline reports that Northeast and Southeast 82
Avenue is so well known in the sex trade that it has its own nickname- “the track.” Nightline also said Portland has the nickname “Pornland” due to the high number of strip joints and massage parlours in the city.
Investigators with Nightline said many of the teen girls working the street came from good homes, got into bad situations and now feel they cannot escape. The girls are often brought to Portland from out of the area.

PORTLAND, Ore. – An ABC Nightline story labeled Portland as “Pornland,” but the head of the Portland Police Bureau’s sex crimes unit said Thursday that’s not really a fair label.
The bureau admits that adult and erotic businesses are extremely prevalent here compared to other cities.
For example, there are 50 strip clubs here compared to Dallas, Texas where there are only three, and in Seattle where there are four.
But as far as the child sex trafficking goes, Portland is not unique, police said.
It’s everywhere across the country. In fact, according to national crime statistics, the average age of a new prostitute in the United States is between 12 and 14 years old.

One 13-year old, who called herself Katy, said that girls get roped into the sex trade through pimps who come onto them as boyfriends, start buying them nice gifts and then typically intimidate them to work as strippers and eventually as prostitutes.
Sgt. Mike Geiger with the Portland Police say the men typically meet the girls in parks, malls or other gathering spots for youth and gather information about the girls to find an area to exploit, such as family trouble, finances, or drugs.
They then work to fill those needs and push the girls into the sex trade. Local police told Nightline they have seen girls as young as 12 years old on the street working as prostitutes.

It’s one distinction that civic braggart Portland won’t be lording over Seattle and other U.S. cities: unlike its enviable transit system and most-livable honors, being the most wide-open city for sex in America – as ABC put it in a report last night – isn’t a line likely to show up in the Chamber of Commerce brochure. As Portland mayor Sam Adams (who was caught up in his own sex scandal) Twittered after last night’s report: “Awful. Unacceptable. Action required.” Sadly, what gives the Rose City this uncoveted distinction (something Dan Rather earlier reported on in his “Pornland, Oregon” piece) – is this, said ABC: “It is a national hub for child sex trafficking,” and with more than 100 strip clubs and massage parlors, Portland is “per capita, the largest legal commercial sex industry in the nation – bigger than even Vegas.” As one official put it, girls “have been gang raped, tied up in Saran Wrap – We’re talking about 13-year-old girls left for dead in their hotel rooms without water or food for days. Pimps put logos on their bodies and they’re treated like animals.” Suddenly, those Al Gore “poodle” jokes aren’t so funny.

Oregon police believe more than 100 underage girls are being deployed to hotel rooms, sent to work on the streets and dance in the strip-clubs.
They are a few of the nearly 200,000 U.S. children at high risk for being trafficked into the sex industry each year, according to the anti-trafficking organization Polaris Project. The average age of entry into prostitution is between 12 and 13, the project says.

Heads up, Portlanders! It’s not the prostitutes and crackdealers on Burnside you should be watching out for in the late hours of your Friday night. It’s those dangerous huggers! University of Portland grad Patrick Geraghty was having a fun evening out, when suddenly, while standing outside of Marathon Tavern, the hugger struck.
The lawsuit describes the bear hug attack in detail: “without warning, [Brian Yoakum] clutched [Geraghty] in a ‘bear hug’ and twisted [Geraghty's] body after securing said hold.” The lawsuit also claims Geraghty broke his right foot as a result of the hug. The lawsuit seeks $75,000 for medical bills and lost wages, plus $500,000 for pain and suffering.
