PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland has become one of the largest hubs for child sex trafficking, and notorious 82nd Avenue is at the core of the business, according to a story aired Wednesday night on ABC’s “Nightline” news magazine program.
According to Nightline, Northeast and Southeast 82nd Avenue is so well-known in the sex trade that it has its own nickname “the track.” The program said Portland has also earned a nickname – “Pornland” – due to the high number of strip joints and massage parlours in the city.
Investigators with Nightline said many of the teen girls working the street came from good homes, somehow got into bad situations and now feel they can’t escape them. The girls are often brought to Portland from other places, the investigators said.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Halloween is just around the corner, and believe it or not, Portland is one of the spookiest cities in the nation.
” Rent.com compiled a list, featuring some of America’s most haunted cities, and Portland came in at number 10.
According to the website, the Rose City has developed a reputation for being the most haunted city in the Pacific Northwest.
They credit Portland’s Shanghai tunnels for much of the ghostly activity. The tunnels were used to kidnap people in the 1800s and shuttle them to the harbor, where they were shipped off as slaves and prostitutes to the Far East.

I have a news clipping I’ve been holding on to since July that sickened me. It’s a Washington Times article called “Portland’s dark world of child sex trafficking.”
It says that Portland—a beautiful West Coast city I have visited several times—has the biggest per capita legal commercial sex industry in America. Dallas has three strip clubs; Seattle has four; yet within Portland’s city limits, “One directory lists 40 erotic dance clubs, 47 all-nude strip clubs, 35 adult businesses and 21 lingerie modeling shops,” the article says.
Bad enough. But this makes it far more disgusting: “Many of these, though legal, are also fronts for underage exploitation.”
A combination of ugly factors has turned this city into a mecca for perverts who want to use children for sex.

… Shillong, Sept 29 (IANS): An estimated 40,000 women from India’s Northeast region were recruited by various escort services for the Commonwealth Games, sparking fears that a vast majority of the women could be engaged in a prostitution racket in New Delhi during the 12-day mega event, rights groups and a minister said here on Tuesday.
“We are indeed worried with girls from the Northeast, numbering somewhere around 40,000 recruited by various agencies, luring them of good money and job opportunities… it has all the possibilities of being engaged in an organised prostitution racket,” Hasina Kharbih, chairperson of Impulse NGO Network, a rights group working in rescuing women trafficked from the Northeast, told IANS.

“Today Northeastern girls are in demand in the flourishing prostitution racket in cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, and even Bangalore and Pune,” another rights leader said.

A SUPPORT worker has been ordered to pay £350 after being caught with drugs in Portland Square.
Alex Gargiulo had gone to the square in St Paul’s after a row with his partner and been spotted by police talking to an unknown prostitute.
At Bristol Magistrates’ Court Gargiulo, 30, of Reed Close, Horfield, admitted possession of 1.7g of cannabis and 0.28g of mephedrone, also known as miaow-miaow.
He also admitted two counts of obstructing a constable in the execution of their duty after trying to flee police after he was searched.
Laura Opie, prosecuting, said Gargiulo was spotted with the prostitute by police in Portland Square at 1.30am on August 7. He was searched and the drugs were found on him.
“He then began to struggle and was held on to as he tried to crawl over the railings, injuring the officer in the process who was pulled onto the railings and suffered bruising to their abdomen.

For the four-minute story, “In Search of Love: Teens Lured Into Sex Trade,” Alfonsi interviewed Portland police officers and a sexual-assault victims’ advocate. She also talks with a mother who says her daughter was forced into prostitution and a girl who says she entered the sex trade at 13, when she met a pimp after a trip to the Lloyd Center Mall.
