Ore. man charged with sex trafficking
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
PORTLAND, Ore. — An Oregon man has been charged with sex trafficking in Washington state and Nevada involving a 13-year-old girl.
A federal grand jury in Portland indicted 33-year-old Lendrick Lee Thomas earlier this month on five counts of sex trafficking and transportation across state lines with the intent to engage in prostitution.
The indictment alleges that Thomas recruited, harbored, maintained and provided a minor female in reckless disregard of the fact that she was under 18 and would be caused to engage in a commercial sex act.
A conviction for sex trafficking of a minor carries a mandatory minimum 10-year sentence to a maximum of life in prison.
A federal judge on Thursday ordered Thomas to remain in custody as a flight risk and danger to the community pending trial.

Portland Adult Entertainment: Oregon Man Charged with Sex Trafficking of a Minor

by kingofportland

PORTLAND, OR—Jefferson Davis, 22, appeared today for a detention hearing, following his initial appearance before United States Magistrate Court Judge Janice Stewart on Friday August 13, 2010. Davis was indicted by a federal grand jury on August 10, 2010 and arrested in Portland on August 12, 2010. He is charged in six counts with sex trafficking, transportation, and the forced labor of a 13-year-old female with the intent to engage in prostitution. Judge Sullivan ordered that Davis be held in custody pending trial as a flight risk and danger to the community.
A jury trial has been set for October 19, 2010. The indictment alleges that Davis transported the minor female from Portland, Oregon to Washington, California, and Nevada with the intent that she engage in prostitution. Force, fraud, and coercion were used to maintain the minor. Davis is alleged to have struck, beaten, and otherwise physically assaulted the minor whenever she refused to work as a prostitute.

Portland Escorts: Madonna’s 52nd Birthday Party is a Boring Bummer!

by escortingportland

Madonna (at an event in April) searches the middle distance, presumably for a better party. Photo courtesy of PatrickMcMullan.com. According to Clemmie Moodie and Danielle Lawler of the UK’s Daily Mirror, who were totally there, Madonna’s rooftop birthday party over the weekend was no fun at all!
Moodie and Lawler arrived at Shoreditch House, a fancy members-only club in London, expecting to find the place crawling with A-listers, but instead they found only Claudia Winkleman, Billie Piper, and Paul Whitehouse. We went to the trouble of verifying that these weren’t just names the authors made up to mess with us: they are, respectively, a TV presenter, the lady from Secret Diary of a Call Girl, and some sort of comedian. And even these guests weren’t living it up: Moodie and Lawler describe “near-silence” at the event. One person quoted in the report describes it as being “like a wake,” which is appropriate as Madge requested that all her guests wear black.

Portland Strip Clubs: The latest entry in Portland’s party transport scene is a 1959 double-decker bus

by exoticinportland

Berry launched her plush 30-seat charter three years ago and has kept rolling thanks to steady 40- to 50-ish-aged clients and a growing stream of prom-goers.
She’s adapted, though, adding a 13-seat “Mini-V” to the fleet, and a dance pole that can be installed into the big bus for particularly gymnastic partyers, then removed later.
Berry has worked out an overbooking deal with Metcalf and Thompson and says of their British bus invasion: “It’s great to see fresh ideas.”
Repurposing iconic buses for private partying hasn’t always gone over smoothly in Portland, however.
Local school bus provider Laidlaw (now owned by the First Student company) had some explaining to do in 2007 when a concerned citizen snapped a photo of one of its chartered, yellow school buses parked outside a strip club. The shot was forwarded to local media.

Portland Strip Clubs: Taking to the stage

by exoticinportland

The story follows stage mother Rose as she pushes her daughters June and Louise  toward stardom in the 1930s. Louise becomes a striptease artist and takes the name Gypsy Rose Lee.
“It’s a strong acting role in addition to singing and dancing,” Johnson said about playing the character of Gypsy. “It’s nice to be able to constantly learn something new. It never gets old.”
“Gypsy” presented Johnson with two challenges: playing a character from 14-23 years old and a burlesque dancer, which means giving the audience the illusion of nudity.
Johnson said she tried to pick up on the nuances of the different ages she plays as the character develops and matures.
“Those transitions are difficult to convey,” she said. “How does a 16-year-old hold her shoulders and how does a 22-year-old confident woman hold her shoulders?”
As the confident burlesque dancer Gypsy, Johnson had to get over the mental hurdle of doing a strip tease on stage.

Portland Escorts: Interview: Mary Ellen Mark on photography

by escortingportland

Mark, 70, is coming to Portland courtesy of the Newspace Center for Photography, which is producing and presenting a workshop and lecture featuring Mark. The workshop is sold out, but limited seating remains for the Friday lecture at Mercy Corps.
Charismatic, slightly irascible and wise, Mark will talk about her past and current work, including a current project on proms at American high schools. (Mark’s husband, filmmaker Martin Bell, has made a documentary on the subject as well.)
During her more than 40 years taking pictures, the Pennsylvania native has created a remarkable body of documentary and photojournalistic work known for its acute sensitivity toward people — work that also reflects strong social and political values.
Influenced by Robert Frank and Helen Levitt, among others, Mark’s been particularly drawn to those living life on the far edges — circus people, prostitutes in remote pockets of the world and the women inside the security ward of the Salem-based mental institution, Oregon State Hospital, for example.

Portland Escorts: Seeing it with a senator’s eyes

by escortingportland

To be sure, Wyden has been working on the issue for months. He’s pushing legislation to help Portland and other cities provide safe houses for prostitutes, where they can be separated from their pimps. Yet even though the senator was well aware of the problem, the ride-along came as a shock.

It’s another thing to see a 15-year-old at 11 p.m, looking for customers. The girl Wyden saw had a regulation kit of sorts — a butcher knife, three condoms and a cell phone. As The Oregonian’s Allan Brettman reported last week, text messages on the phone linked the girl to someone believed to be her pimp.

Once young girls develop a bond with a pimp, however, it’s difficult to retrieve them. A police officer swooping in can make a difference, but only if he or she has the legal authority to help the girl and a safe place to lodge her, away from her pimp. Getting her to testify against him is another battle. If the girl is just returned “home” (often to foster care), she is almost certain to return to prostitution.

Portland Escorts: Vancouver sex shop outrages residents

by escortingportland

A Vancouver community group is lobbying the city to get a sex novelty shop out of its neighbourhood.
A branch of the Lower Mainland chain Fantasy Factory moved into a storefront at Kingsway and Fraser Street in East Vancouver last fall.
The store advertises the sale of adult videos and magazines, lingerie, performance enhancers, and sex toys.
However, members of the Dickens Community group want it gone.
Director Peter Wohlwend said the group has spent the past 10 years trying to improve the area, and the store is a major setback.
“We have been fighting here the prostitution, drug dealing, and pimps in this neighbourhood in the last 10 years, and this sort of says, ‘Well, it’s okay, come and pick up a hooker here.’”

Portland Escorts: Sex trafficking requires state plan

by escortingportland

This problem is so pervasive that the Portland area was even featured in a recent Dan Rather television special: “Pornland, Oregon: Child Prostitution in Portland.”
Children anywhere in the United States – let alone in Portland and surrounding Washington County communities – should not be vulnerable to being ensnared by the sex industry and subjected to its many incredible dangers.
The Rather television show reported something that local law-enforcement officials already knew: Child prostitution is a national problem. But that Portland, due to its location on the Interstate 5 corridor, provides fertile ground and trafficking corridor for those who make money from the entrapment and abuse of children. In fact, a U.S. Department of Justice study has ranked Portland and Seattle among 12 hub cities where traffickers recruit teenagers for sex work and move them around the country.
