So what do we know about Gore and the masseuse? Well, Gore claimed that his mother sang union ditties as lullabies when he was an infant – didn’t happen. He claimed that he and Tipper were the models upon whom “Love Story” was based – didn’t happen. He claimed that he invented the internet – didn’t happen. Gore’s public career has been replete with exaggerations, contradictions and self-promotion. On the other hand we know that the masseuse has a spotless professional reputation – the state licensing board indicated that there have been no complaints or board actions against her. Despite intimations that she is a prostitute there is no record of arrests, prosecutions or convictions for anything in the sex trade. She has established a sufficient reputation for professionalism such that several of Portland’s high-end hotels recommend her to their own customers. In any contest for veracity, Gore finishes a distant second to the masseuse.

… AP) PORTLAND, Ore. – Nearly three years after 51-year-old Dean Melvin Rieck was arrested, a prosecutor has agreed to dismiss the kidnapping, rape and sexual abuse charges against him. Soon Rieck will be free.
A 20-year-old woman told police a man later identified as Rieck had driven her from Portland to rural Washington County at gunpoint, bound her with duct tape and raped her.
Deputy District Attorney Greg Moawad says the woman was very believable. And Rieck had spent most of his life in prison.
But defense lawyer Deborah Burdzik discovered the woman had reported an almost identical story in 2006. That time she said she got away. And the prosecutor says the woman had a history of lying to police. Now Moawad says all the evidence against Rieck also supports the defense argument that the woman was a prostitute who went with the man willingly.

‘Coerced’ equals ‘raped’
Since when is coerced sex not rape? Only when it is with a prostitute? Only in the mind of the Beaverton Police Chief Geoff Spalding (”Ex-cop admits to soliciting sex on duty,” June 29). If Joshua Michael Jensen got the sex he wanted by threatening someone, then he is a rapist. Will he be listed as a sexual predator? Both Chief Spalding and Officer Jensen’s world view holds that in some circumstances it’s OK to have coerced sex with a woman.
I am outraged.

Northeast Portland
Strong leadership needed
In his column “Recognize the realities of Reset — and its cost” (June 27), David Sarasohn gets down to brass tacks in ways the governor can’t afford to do, regardless of his unusual candor. But what even Sarasohn fails to do is to point out the dilemma of special interests and their (our) intransigence in working together for a solution. Instead, each of us seems intent on pleading our own needs.

You are reading the news of this police report — originally filed in October of 2006 — only because the National Enquirer scooped the story. In June of 2010. You did not read it in the Portland Tribune, which has been on this story since 2007 and failed to tell its readers until the Enquirer broke the story. The Tribune’s explanation for this is to be found here.
Then there’s the interesting news that Kathleen Parker, she the “conservative” columnist who has gained renown in liberal quarters for Palin-bashing, has been selected by CNN to partner (so-to-speak) on a new political chat show with Client Number 9 for a rousing — according to press reports — $700,000. Client Number 9, of course, would be former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, who was identified as such by the investigating feds curious about the ex-crime busting state attorney general’s passion for expensive prostitutes. Said passions led to Mr. Spitzer’s resignation as governor.

Ex-Beaverton Police Officer Pleads Guilty In Prostitution Case
Kristian Foden-Vencil | June 28, 2010 | Beaverton, OR
A former Beaverton Police officer pled guilty Monday to prostitution and coercion. As Kristian Foden-Vencil reports, he agreed to two-and-a-half years in prison.
In April, Officer Josh Jensen contacted a woman who posted escort services on line. He arranged a meeting during his work time and in his uniform, then threatened her with arrest for prostitution unless she performed a sex act.
He’s believed to have done the same thing with another woman offering escort services.
Beaverton Police Chief Geoff Spalding called it an isolated incident, saying women should not be worried about their safety if they’re stopped by his officers.
Geoff Spalding: “This is just a very embarrassing incident for us and it’s very uncharacteristic of any officer and it’s just a character flaw in somebody that you just can’t detect going through the process.”

HILLSBORO — A former Beaverton police officer pleaded guilty today to soliciting sex while on duty and was sentenced to 30 months in prison.
Investigators began looking into the case of Joshua Michael Jensen, 25, in May, after an incarcerated woman reported she met a customer through her escort business who she believed was a cop.
…
At about 9 a.m. today, Jensen was arraigned on two counts of prostitution, two counts of official misconduct and one count of coercion. He entered a guilty plea to all five charges.

But Ridgway never confessed to killing Angela Girdner. Washington County Det. Ray Marcom is convinced Ridgway has refused because his plea bargain only protects him from the death penalty in Washington state. If Angela Girdner died in Oregon, Ridgway could face the death penalty there.
“I believe she died in Oregon,” Marcom said. “I have not found any evidence to show that she was ever in Washington state.”
Marcom says one man — Charles William Wakefield III — could be crucial to tying Ridgway to Angela Girdner’s death. Wakefield was just 18 when the victim met him in 1983.
“She was friendly, and fell in love at the age of 15 (only) to find out that the fellow she fell in love with was a pimp,” said mother Reta Girdner.
