Portland Escorts: Five Places: What’s old is new again

by escortingportland

This old firehouse that dates back to 1910 has been converted into a sophisticated restaurant in downtown Monterey. Owners kept the red-brick exterior but transformed the inside into a cozy spot that offers dishes like lobster mac n’ cheese and baby artichoke risotto. And no, there isn’t a fireman’s pole in the middle of the dining room. 414 Calle Principal, Monterey. (831) 648-8880, www.montrio. com. Open for dinner daily. Reservations a must.
3. Bordello Bar, Los Angeles
This bar, formerly the longest-operating brothel in L.A., may not offer the same, um, services as it once did, but still pays homage to its past by tantalizing customers with a sexy, lively atmosphere. Waitresses serve drinks in lingerie, dancing girls entertain at burlesque shows and the decor is what can only be described as Moulin Rouge meets vampire-chic (dark red mood lighting, black chandeliers, gold accents and overstuffed Victorian-style furniture). 901 East 1st St., Los Angeles. (213) 687-3766, www.bordellobar.com.

Portland Strip Clubs: Thoughts on Stripper Economics

by exoticinportland

So here’s a confession. My trip with a Reed economics class to Union Jacks this past weekend was actually my first time in a Portland strip club. And because it was my first time, I was taken aback by a couple things: So much money! So casually exchanged! It’s strange that the likely millions of dollars passing through Portland’s strip clubs are not counted as part of the “real” economy by either the city or traditional economists. Though Portland has 49 strip clubs within its boundaries (according to industry mag Exotic), the city does not factor their business into Portland’s economy at all. Despite having business licenses and W-2 forms, they’re part of the informal sector like Craigslist.

I don’t know how the city would do this, because other states’ attempts to keep track of strip clubs financially have been driven by morals, not economic curiosity. In Texas, a $5-per-customer strip club tax goes into a fund for rape victims. Las Vegas pursued a strip club tax with the justification that they were a burden on police.

Portland Escorts: A new generation of performers brings vaudeville to life on Portland stages

by escortingportland

This was the second annual “White Album Christmas” show put on by the Wanderlust Circus, run by Mickens and his production partner, “Nick the Creature” (real name: Nick Harbar). The pair are busy all year, with shows popping up almost faster than fans can follow. But the “White Album” event is a biggie. Mickens, wearing his “William Batty” top hat and long coat, whips up enthusiasm in a gleeful, raspy carnival barker’s tone: “Years ago, I had my heart replaced by an applause-O-meter!” he tells the packed room, who cheer their approval.
In contrast to the spectacle and flash of the Wanderlust Circus, the mood tends to be low key and playful at Miz Kitty’s Parlour in Northwest Portland. Marsicek dresses up in corset, ostrich feather boa and striped stockings to be “Miz Kitty,” who presides over a sort-of brothel, and, as her site says, transports “the 21st-century audience into the realm of the Alaskan Gold Rush.”
“I get to dress up like a prostitute from the 1880s,” says Marsicek, “and say dirty things.” Well, not so much dirty, she adds, as “sassy and saucy.”

Portland Strip Clubs: The views from on high are nice, but not many can afford them

by exoticinportland

It offers a panoramic, 360-degree view of Vancouver, a saltwater swimming pool, acres of gleaming Italian marble and a living room whose ceiling is gilded in white gold leaf.
Price for one month?
“It’s five hundred,” said Daniel Mitchell, the general manager.
“Five hundred what?” I asked.
“Five hundred thousand dollars,” he said.
Half a million for a rental apartment, even if does have a catering kitchen for the help, seems preposterous. But Mitchell is optimistic he’ll find a renter.
“It might be a celebrity, maybe George Clooney or Oprah, or a major corporation,” he guessed.
He explained that his building, on Seymour Street across from the Penthouse strip club, has lots of rich and famous people checking in. The cast from Twilight have been guests, though in the much cheaper suites below. The NHL Players’ Association and Omega, the people who keep the Olympic clocks ticking, have all booked suites.

Portland Adult Entertainment: Vancouver getting ready for its Olympic moment

by kingofportland

The region has been home to indigenous First Nations peoples for many centuries, and the 2010 Olympic logo is a colorful interpretation of an Inuit stone structure called an inukshuk. One of these stone landmarks, considered symbols of welcome, is found on the beach in Vancouver, on the downtown side of English Bay. Two more are on Whistler Mountain. Visitors can learn more about the regions indigenous culture at the Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia.
Europeans arrived in British Columbia in the 18th and 19th centuries with the advent of the fur trade. Several gold rushes brought prospectors from around the world. The Gastown neighborhood, in the heart of old Vancouver, grew up quickly around a makeshift tavern established in 1867 by gold prospector Jack Deighton. The name Gastown came from Deightons nickname, Gassy, slang for someone who talks a lot.
Any exploration of Vancouver would be incomplete without experiencing Gastowns old-world charm: cobbled streets, a much-photographed steam clock, quaint pubs, restaurants and galleries. Just be careful not to stray too far south of Gastown into the citys notoriously squalid and poverty-stricken Downtown Eastside, where drugs and prostitution are rampant.

Portland Strip Clubs: Cheers & Jeers, Jan. 23

by exoticinportland

Cheers: To indefatigable former Congresswoman Linda Smith and her nonprofit, Shared Hope International, for championing changes in state laws regarding sex trafficking. Smith and her staff journeyed to Olympia twice this week to testify on behalf of three important bills. Senate Bill 6330 would authorize the state Department of Transportation to place informational posters in rest areas; SB6332 would require employers of foreign workers to inform them of their rights; and SB6476 would stiffen criminal penalties for pimps and add protections for young prostitutes.
Though prostitution isn’t very visible on local streets, authorities say the problem is pervasive. Girls, many of them runaways, are transported between cheap motels along the I-5 corridor. Clark County is a favorite recruiting spot. Accompanying Smith to Olympia was a La Center teen who narrowly escaped the life of prostitution after being recruited to work in a Seattle strip club.

Portland Adult Entertainment: Guilty verdict returned in West Longview stabbing trial

by kingofportland

Asencio was airlifted from Longview to Oregon Health and Science University in Portland with “life-threatening injuries,” the documents said. He recovered and testified during the two-and-a-half day trial.
“All that prevented a man from dying was the skill and techniques used by the doctors at the hospital,” Deputy Prosecutor James Smith told the jury during closing arguments Thursday.
Rodriguez, Smith said, “stabbed a man in the heart, almost took from him his life, all that he had, all that he ever could have. … Why did he do it? For the pettiest of reasons.”
Rodriguez told sheriff’s investigators he was in a bedroom when the stabbing occurred. Defense attorney Richard Suryan suggested Thursday there were too many discrepancies in witnesses’ accounts to establish that his client stabbed Asencio. Suryan also raised questions about the character and motives of the prosecution witnesses, suggesting that some of the young women at the apartment that night are prostitutes.

Portland Strip Clubs: American Idol Orlando: Cornelius Edwards is "Ripped Pants Guy"

by exoticinportland

Cornelius Edwards won’t be remembered for his great singing on American Idol, but for his ripped pants. Hey, at least he’ll be remembered!
Even better, Cornelius learned his dance moves from some stripper friends of his, which he proceeded to demonstrated for the judges.
The 24-year-old began to belt out “Proud Mary,” but when he fell into a split, so did his pants—right down the middle. Kara DioGuardi declared it “the best thing I’ve ever seen.”
