Portland Strip Clubs: Portland Gets HUMPed!

by exoticinportland

There were two sold-out screenings of HUMP! 5 at Portland’s Cinema 21 last night and there are two more sold-out screenings tonight. It was Portland’s first ever HUMP! and—just like two weeks ago at On the Boards in Seattle—audiences laughed, gasped, cried, cheered as for Violet Uprising, The Password, Cyclust, Sex Moves 102, Citizen Came, Our Ruinous Love, ET2, and all the other films in HUMP. But Portland’s audiences did one thing Seattle audiences couldn’t do: knock back a drink during the show. In Oregon adults are allowed to enjoy more than once vice at a time—you can have a drink and watch porn or strippers down here—because Oregon treats adults like adults.
We’re going to count Portland’s votes tomorrow afternoon and we’ll be announcing the winners of HUMP! 5—the two $2000 grand prizes along with the second- and third-place prizes—in the print editions of the Stranger and the Portland Mercury this week.

Portland Adult Entertainment: Three arrested on suspicion of promoting prostitution

by kingofportland

by Jack Gale : 10/23/09 2:45pm – Report Abuse
Only $20,ooo for child prostitution? Should be $1,000,000. What a low life.
by Penny Asbury : 10/23/09 6:57pm – Report Abuse
I wonder if this is new ground breaking as to how bail is set. It does seem low to me too, but maybe how it pans out in court will determine future fines and bails. The Pacific NW is entering the 21st Century!
by BJ Davey : 10/23/09 7:17pm – Report Abuse
Jack, this article does not specifically say that they were charged with child prostitution, only second degree prostitution. Although it says he “was netted during a multi-agency undercover operation to track down underage prostitutes“, they are not clear that child prostitution was involved. Perhaps this is why the lower bail. It would be nice if the Columbian would give better details. $20,000 is low if indeed a child is involed.

Putting a Portland spin on ‘The Beggar’s Opera’
October 20, 2009, 4:50AM
View full sizeBrian Lee/Special to The OregonianHomeless people look on as Mrs. Peachum (Beth Madsen Bradford) threatens Felch, a “slovenly gay boy” played by Arne Hartmann, in Opera Theater Oregon’s up-to-the-minute version of “The Beggar’s Opera.”
The world loves Portland, but Stephen Marc Beaudoin has his doubts.
The outspoken Portland writer, singer and stage director sees a city of homelessness, violence, paralyzed politicians and porn shops.
Which makes him an apt choice to direct “The Beggar’s Opera,” John Gay’s irreverent tale about injustice and corruption starring a band of thieves, prostitutes and ne’er-do-wells. Never mind that the original “Beggar’s Opera” is set in London and was written in 1728. Portland makes a perfect substitute, Beaudoin says.

Portland Adult Entertainment: Clackamas sergeant sorts out multiple IDs to make arrest

by kingofportland

In the process, said Detective Dave Kennell, Sgt. Lynn Schoenfeld made an arrest that took a high-profile name off the county’s Most Wanted List.
“Lynn did a great job in arresting her, when others might have just let her walk away when she lied about who she was,” Kennell said.
Detective Jim Strovink, sheriff’s spokesman, agreed.
“Whoever she really is, she will have to go to court now,” Strovink said. “The sergeant did a remarkable job sorting through it all.”
At about 11:15 a.m. Oct. 9, Sgt. Lynn Schoenfeld noticed a car parked illegally near the intersection of Southeast Fuller and Battin roads, an area west of Happy Valley plagued by street prostitution. When Shoenfeld approached the car, he saw a woman hiding under a quilt in the front passenger seat.

Portland Adult Entertainment: Clackamas deputies arrest 14 in domestic-violence sweep

by kingofportland

According to federal Department of Justice statistics, more than three women in the United States are murdered every day by their husbands or boyfriends.
In 2008, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published data collected in 2005 that find that women experience 2 million injuries from intimate partner violence each year. Also, nearly one in four women in the United States reports experiencing violence by a current or former spouse or boyfriend at some point in her life.
The violence also creates a hostile environment for children. A 2007 study shows that 15.5 million children in the United States live in families in which partner violence occurred at least once in the past year. Of those, 7 million children live in families in which severe partner violence occurred.
Children who witness domestic violence are more likely to attempt suicide, abuse drugs and alcohol, run away from home and engage in teenage prostitution.

Portland Strip Clubs: How To Learn More About A Tough Topic: Human Trafficking

by exoticinportland

Here’s one other thing after attending the symposium Tuesday night put together by Oregonians Against Trafficking Humans, Multnomah County Commissioner Diane McKeel and Clark County Soroptimists: More than 50 percent of prostitutes are minors, and of these, 90 percent of them are American and most enter into the industry by age 13. Many of these girls (the data on boys isn’t yet available) fled from unstable families, and don’t realize that pimps are waiting for them at bus stations and malls.
Portland Police Sgt. Doug Justus of the Portland Police says three or four child prostitutes are brought to him every week. He also says Portland has only two vice investigators addressing these cases. Whether it be forced labor for a farm, household, or restaurant, or sexual activities in a dark alley or strip club, involuntary servitude is a serious problem in our community. Below are ways to open your eyes, even if it’s ugly, to the people around you.

Portland Strip Clubs: Trimmed-down ballet set for a lean season

by exoticinportland

There’s a showbiz flavor to part of each program, whether Company B this weekend, or, for Program II, Slaughter on Tenth Avenue, which Balanchine choreographed for the 1936 musical On Your Toes (his first Broadway work). It’s the comic tale of a hoofer who battles gangsters and petulant ballet stars for the love of a stripper, and which MCB first (and last) danced in 2001. Program III is Villella’s evening-length The Neighborhood Ballroom, a four-part social and ballroom dance saga completed in 2003 that follows a young poet’s life and romantic travails from the 1912 dawn of the waltz to the mambo explosion of the 1950s. (The company has brought back Yann Trividic, the French dancer who starred as the poet.) And Program IV finishes with Balanchine’s Who Cares?, a jazzy valentine to George Gershwin’s music and insouciant American style.

Portland Adult Entertainment: Vehicle break-ins increase at MHCC

by kingofportland

The Public Safety report on the MHCC website shows that in 2007, 22 motor vehicle thefts occurred. Numbers for 2008 were not available, but in 2005 there were also 22 vehicles reported stolen and in 2006, 18 vehicles were reported stolen.
The college employs a number of full-time and part-time Public Safety officers. There are officers on duty 24 hours a day.
Public Safety officers offer the following advice to prevent thefts from vehicles: always lock your car; if you are on campus after dark, move your car to a closer spot; have classmates walk you to your car, then drive them to theirs; know the location of the emergency/information telephones; and use the escort service by dialing 7310 from any campus phone. In an effort to help prevent break-ins, do not leave valuables in your car.

Portland Strip Clubs: Swingers Go Wild for Bill Plympton

by exoticinportland

On my way to Ron Jeremy’s Club Sesso last night, I received a phone call from my father. “Be careful at that event, India… there will be some pretty unsavory characters present.” Unsavory? What did that even mean? I was about to go meet Bill Plympton, one of the world’s coolest, and crudest, cartoonists! Was he implying that cartoon lovers were seedy? Certainly the club’s regulars wouldn’t be looking for a gangbang on a Monday night when an open event was taking place? Not that “swingers” are unsavory either. Am I digging myself a hole here?
I will admit, I was a little nervous when I walked into the club, which was hosting a live life drawing event for the Portland-born artist. Not because of the handful of grandma’s walking around in stripper heels and garter belts, but because of how badly I stuck out in my seven layers of sweaters and Keds. I tried to look casual; I leaned against the bar, sipped $3 champagne, and tried so damn hard not to look directly at an old woman’s naked breasts get fondled in the corner. Oh god, I thought embarrassed, what if I see someone I know?
