La Vie Boheme-Part 1

It’s opening night of Portland Opera’s La Boheme and I’ve been asked to blog.
I’m sitting in the lobby at a long table with six other bloggers, feeling a bit exposed, like a stripper behind the glass. I’m supposed to say intelligent and observant things about the evening but I’m feeling rather stupid and inarticulate. So, wish me luck. Here we go:
For starters, La Boheme is one of my favorite operas. The music is glorious, the story heartbreaking. You all know it already. Who hasn’t seen Rent by now in one of its various stops for Portland Opera’s Broadway series? Four artists live in a garotte in the center of Paris. They are poor and starving. The original bohemians. They live, they love, they experience heartbreak and grow up.

Woman ignores warning, cited for prostitution

Not even a warning from the Lake Oswego Police could stop an alleged prostitute from doing business.
The result was she was issued a citation for prostitution and then released Sept. 11.
After it was noticed the woman was constantly being visited by men in her room at the Hilton Garden Inn, the woman was paid a call by the police.

The woman persisted and was arrested. Two days after contacting the suspect, officers simply answered her advertisement on Craigslist. After making an appointment with her, officers went to her room and issued her the citation for prostitution.

Further investigation by the Lake Oswego Police discovered that the woman had been traveling to various cities in the country and had other arrests for prostitution.

Portland officer under criminal investigation for more than a year

Detectives last week raided the home of a Portland police officer who is under criminal investigation amid allegations of inappropriate contact with prostitutes and other women while on duty and after work.
The investigation into Officer Rodney B. Murdock’s alleged misconduct has lasted more than a year and has included internal affairs inquiries and criminal investigations.
The Multnomah County district attorney’s office said Murdock, 41, is the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation that has not been resolved.
No charges have been filed, and no arrest has been made.
The police raid of Murdock’s Hillsboro home, which he shares with his wife and children, occurred Sept. 16.
Members of the bureau’s sex assault unit obtained the search warrant, which has been sealed.

“This is going on in our own backyard, and we want to do what we can to abolish forced prostitution/trafficking in Portland,” Campus Pastor Sarah Baldwin said. “We want each person to leave this conference not simply more aware but empowered to help bring about a change.”

LAS VEGAS — A Las Vegas Valley massage parlor is taking a hands-on approach to giving back and fighting breast cancer.
Massage Envy is hosting Massage for the Cure. All eight of their locations are participating on Tuesday and are offering discounted one-hour massages of $35. Massage Envy said it is donating $10 from every massage to Las Vegas local Susan G. Koman for the Cure.
Breast cancer survivors said they are even taking advantage of the healing touch the deal offers.
Massage Envy clinics across the country are participating in the nationwide event and said they hope to earn $500,000 for Susan G. Koman for the Cure.
